Blog #2 Across the WIre
Across the wire by Luis Alberto Urrea was a touching story, experiences about how Mexicans live across the wire in Tijuana. Across the wire actually is a interesting title because it set good on the description that the author sets in the lecture. Across the wire meaning on the other side of San Diego which is Tijuana, people live in such bad conditions. In the "dompe" how they call it, it's where many poor families live which garbag, the junkyard where they throw dead cats, dogs, goats. The place it is also fill with many disease that people are exposed to. Luis is the coordinator and he helps people by bringing them food and builiding them houses so they could have a more stable life. Jesusita is one of the many people that needs a house for her family as well as Pacha who lives in such harsh conditions. The author describes how they dont even have a good health care and both of the babies who were supposed to be born in the free clinic both of them died. His descriptions of the place are very detailits such as how the houses puddle in mud and when it rains there is always a flood.Helping also has fear moments as when they drink the coffee, thye know that they can be exposed to disease but they also know that if they reject it is an insult for them. The Serranos is another family living in poverty and how they get sick such as diarrhea, but the doctor wanted a new baby. At the end is sad because they shot Jesusita, and there was a sign that his not gone by tomorrow they would kill him.
